  • Demi Lovato just performed her new song “Commander in Chief” at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards.

  • (Not) Surprise(d): Demi straight-up killed it.

It has probably been a hella-weird couple of weeks for Demi Lovato following her super-public breakup with her ex-fiancé, Max Ehrich, but she isn’t letting that stop her from bringing her A-game, y’all. Regardless of the drama, Demi is officially back to work and keeping her fans fed because—lucky us!—she just performed her newest song “Commander in Chief” at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards. ’Tis a glorious day to be a Lovatic!

And since 2020 is just about the most political year ever, Demi used her stage time to not-so-subtly remind viewers to cast their vote in the upcoming election, as evidenced by the words on the screen directly behind her:

Her song “Commander in Chief” is also her most overtly political EVER. But before you furiously Google the lyrics to find out what the heck it means, don’t worry—we gotchu, babes:

Demi first made her return to the stage earlier this year at the Grammy Awards in February, where she performed her v personal, tearjerking song “Anyone” to widespread acclaim. The last time Demi was at the Billboard Music Awards—you know, when getting dressed up and going to IRL ceremonies was a common thing—was back in 2018, when she performed “Fall in Line” (her collaboration with the one and only Christina Aguilera).

Demi wasn’t nominated for any awards tonight, but that’ll probably change next year when she releases her long-awaited album! Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with YouTube’s replay button.
