Demi Lovato's mom Dianna de la Garza just gave her first interview since the singer's July overdose. In an appearance on Newsmax TV, she said recalling the events of that day is very emotional for her.

"It's still a really difficult thing to talk about," she said. "I literally start to shake a little bit when I start to remember what happened that day."

It was an otherwise normal day when she started getting bombarded with texts from friends and family who were wishing her daughter well and saying how concerned they were. She didn't figure out what was happening until Demi's assistant called her to tell her.

"I was in shock. I didn't know what to say," Dianna said. "It was just something that I never, ever expected to hear, as a parent, about any of my kids."

When she got the call, Demi's assistant indicated that the singer was conscious, but wasn't able to speak, which is when Dianna knew they "were in trouble." She told Demi's sisters (Dallas and Madison) what had happened and they got to the hospital ASAP.

"She just didn't look good-at all. She was in bad shape. But I said to her, 'Demi, I'm here. I love you.' And at that point she said back to me, 'I love you, too.'"

Dianna said it was her faith that helped her get through that time, but she thinks Demi is doing as well as she is now because of the positivity of everyone who wished her well.

"I just feel like the reason she's alive today is because of the millions of prayers that went up that day when everybody found out what was happening," she said. "I don't think she would be here if it hadn't been for those prayers."
