DePaul Community Health Center to educate, inform during Black Maternal Breastfeeding Week

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — In recognition of Black Maternal Breastfeeding Week, DePaul Community Health Center is hosting a special event dedicated to celebrating and supporting breastfeeding mothers.

Happening Thursday, Aug. 29, the DePaul Community Health Centers Infant Equity Education Program (DIEEP) will partner with the Beta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and other local organizations, to host the “Tickled Pink to Breastfeed” adult-only event.

From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Salon22 at 2407 Bienville St. in New Orleans, expecting mothers, current nursing mothers and those planning to breastfeed, will have the chance to connect, learn and celebrate in a “nurturing environment.”

Mothers will be able to engage with others in the community to share their experiences.

“We are honored to host this event and provide a space where mothers can come together, gain valuable insights, and feel supported in their breastfeeding journey,” said Michael G. Griffin, MSPH, DSc, FACHE, President and CEO of DePaul Community Health Centers. “Our goal is to empower mothers with the resources and encouragement they need to give their babies the best start in life.”

Attendees will gain access to educational materials on local breastfeeding services while hearing words of support from MD, MAS, Veronica Gillispie-Bell.

Gillispie-Bell is an OBGYN and Medical Director of the Louisiana Perinatal Quality Collaborative and Pregnancy Associated Mortality Review for the Louisiana Department of Health.

Those in attendance will receive nursing support gifts and the winner of a DIEEP PUMP Act Compliance Grant will be announced.
