The Call Me By Your Name Sequel Details May Take You by Surprise
If you weren’t satisfied with how things concluded for Elio and Oliver during their summer romp across the Italian countryside in Call Me by Your Name, we've got a satisfying update. The book’s author, André Aciman, is gearing up to release a follow-up to the New York Times bestseller-which, you might remember, was adapted into a buzzy, romance-packed 2017 movie starring Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet.
The sequel is set for an October 29, 2019 release. And according to Vulture, Aciman’s followup will be called Find Me, and will once again revisit the love story between lead characters Elio and Oliver. This time, however, a third member of the Perlman family will thrust into their saga.
“In Find Me, Aciman shows us Elio’s father Samuel, now divorced, on a trip from Florence to Rome to visit Elio, who has become a gifted classical pianist. A chance encounter on the train leads to a relationship that changes Sami’s life definitively,” a release from publisher Farrar, Straus, and Giroux reads.
“Elio soon moves to Paris where he too has a consequential affair, while Oliver, now a professor in northern New England with sons who are nearly grown, suddenly finds himself contemplating a return visit to Europe.”
The plotline sounds perfect for a movie sequel, too-though it doesn't sound like we're getting one anytime soon. While an untitled Call My By Your Name sequel is listed on IMDb, the film’s director Luca Guadagnino hasn’t confirmed anything.
And Hammer has basically shut down the rumors. In an interview on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, he said, “There have been really loose conversations about it, but at the end of the day-I’m sort of coming around to the idea that the first one was so special for everyone who made it, and so many people who watched it felt like it really touched them, or spoke to them.”
Hammer continued, “It felt like a really perfect storm of so many things, that if we do make a second one, I think we’re setting ourselves up for disappointment. I don’t know that anything will match up to the first, you know?”
Luckily, October isn’t that far away-so you bet we’ll be flying through Find Me the second it hits shelves.
