‘Dexter’ Cast: Where Are They Now?

The Dexter cast captivated audiences with its unique premise, complex characters and gripping storyline. Created by James Manos Jr., the show aired on Showtime from October 1, 2006, and continued until September 22, 2013.

Set in Miami, Florida, Dexter followed the life of Dexter Morgan, a forensic blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department who leads a double life as a vigilante serial killer, targeting other killers who have escaped justice.

Dexter garnered widespread acclaim and a dedicated fan base for its compelling narrative, suspenseful plot twists, and masterful performances by its cast. Audiences were drawn to the moral ambiguity of the title character, as well as the exploration of themes such as justice, redemption, and the nature of good and evil. The show's exploration of the human psyche, coupled with its dark humor and intense drama, solidified its status as a cultural phenomenon.

Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan

Born on February 1, 1971, in Raleigh, North Carolina, Michael C. Hall played Dexter Morgan, a forensic analyst for the Miami Metro Police Department by day and a vigilante serial killer by night. He targeted other murderers, but only those who were guilt.

Before Dexter, Hall gained recognition for his role as David Fisher in the critically acclaimed television series Six Feet Under (2001-2005), showcasing his dramatic range. After Six Feet Under he moved on to Dexter and after that he continued to act in several TV series.

He joined the cast of Safe (2018) and he also appeared in TV mini-series The Defeater (2020-21). Additionally, Hall did voiceover work in Star vs the Force of Evil from 2015-2019. Most recently he was in the TV series Dexter: New Blood (2021-22).

Jennifer Carpenter as Debra Morgan

Born on December 7, 1979, in Louisville, Kentucky, Jennifer Carpenter played Debra Morgan, Dexter's adoptive sister and a detective in the Miami Metro Police Department, who grapples with her own moral dilemmas throughout the series.

Carpenter trained at Juilliard School in New York City and starred on Broadway in The Crucible, opposite Liam Neeson and Laura Linney. Her breakout film was the role of Emily Rose in the movie The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005). She won several awards for that part. Then she got her career defining role as Debra Morgan on Dexter.

After the Dexter cast, Carpenter became a regular in the series Limitless (2015-2016) in the 2019’s The Enemy Within. She also made appearances in several movies including The Devil’s Hand (2014), Brawl in Cell Block 99 (2017) and A Mouthful of Air (2019). Most recently, she was in the TV mini-series Dexter: New Blood.

Carpenter was married to her Dexter co-star Michael C. Hall.

David Zayas as Angel Batista

Born on August 15, 1962, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. David Zayas played the character Angel Batista, a detective in the Miami Metro Police Department and Dexter's colleague and friend, known for his loyalty and integrity.

Prior to the Dexter cast, Zayas had appearances in several TV shows including Third Watch, NYPD Blue, Law & Order and Guiding Light, before landing a series regular part in the show Oz. He also appeared in several movies including Skyline, Michael Clayton and 13.

After Dexter, Zayas appeared as a regular in several TV series including Gotham, Bloodline, Shut Eye and Blue Bloods.

Most recently, he was in the TV series The Blacklist and he had appearances in the movie Snag (2023) and The Driver (2022).

Zayas is married to actress Liza Colón-Zayas, and they have one son together. He is also a former New York City police officer, which lends authenticity to his portrayals of law enforcement characters on screen.

James Remar as Harry Morgan — Dexter cast

Born December 31, 1953, in Boston, Massachusetts, James Remar played the role of Harry Morgan, Dexter's adoptive father and a retired police officer, who teaches him the code of ethics that governs his vigilantism.

Remar got his acting chops in the 1979 movie Ajax, followed by the film The Warriors. He also appeared on Broadway alongside Richard Gere in the stage performance of Bent.

He then went on to play a range of roles including parts in The Cotton Club (1984) and 48 Hrs. (1982). Many people remember him as Samantha's lover, the billionaire playboy, Richard Wright, in the Sex and the City series.

After Dexter, he went on to play in the TV reboot of Magnum P.I. (2018-2023) and he had appearances in Yellowstone and The Rookie.

His most recent movies include appearances in Oppenheimer (2023) Glowzies (2023) and in 2024’s Drugstore June.

C.S. Lee as Vince Masuka — Dexter cast

Born December 30, 1971, in Cheongju, South Korea, C.S. Lee played the role of Vince Masuka, a forensic analyst at the Miami Metro Police Department with a penchant for dark humor and an irreverent attitude.

Lee appeared in several shows before the Dexter cast including Spin City, Law and Order, As the World Turns, and The Sopranos.

After Dexter, he had a regular spot on Chicago Med and also had appearances in Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens and Quantum Leap. In addition to TV Lee has appeared in several movies including The Stepford Wives (2004), The Unborn (2009) Altered Minds (2013) and All Together Now (2020).

Most recently, he’s been a series regular in East New York (2022-23) and For All Mankind (2022-24).

Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn — Dexter cast

Born October 19, 1976, in Savannah, Georgia, Desmond Harrington played the role of Joey Quinn, a detective in the Miami Metro Police Department and Debra Morgan's on-again, off-again love interest, known for his reckless behavior.

Prior to Dexter, he was in several shows including Rescue Me, Sons and Daughters, Gossip Girl and Dragnet.

After Dexter he was a regular on the series The Astronaut Wives Club and on the show Sneaky Pete. He also appeared in the show Limitless (2015) with former Dexter co-star Jennifer Carpenter.

Most recently he was in the series Elementary (2018) and Manhunt (2022).
