Did Maisie Williams Just Drop a Major Spoiler About the Final Season of ‘Game of Thrones’?
After seven long seasons of scandalous affairs, bloody battle scenes and power-hungry tyrants, Game of Thrones has fans clinging to the edge of their seats awaiting the final season.
So when Maisie Williams appeared on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon on Monday, Thrones fans were left with their jaws on the floor at her “accidental” revelation.
During the interview, Fallon asked Williams if there was anything she could share about the final season.
“There’s really nothing I can say,” Williams said, referring to HBO’s recent blast of memos asking the cast to keep quiet. “They would absolutely kill me.”
Fallon continued to plead for a “crumb” of information (just as we would have, given the opportunity). That’s when Williams casually began to talk about the fate of Arya Stark and shared wayyyyyy more than we expected.
“During shooting, like, the final days were really, like, emotional, saying goodbye to all of the cast,” the Game of Thrones actress said. “When I found out that Arya died, in like, the second episode, I was…” Umm…wait, what?! The audience immediately fell silent.
“Is this live? They can edit that?” she asked, panicked and fearful that the news would spread like wildfire through the Sept of Baelor.
Williams then ran off the stage apologizing, and Fallon immediately went after her. Before we could even process what had just happened, the duo turned around to the camera and yelled “April Fools!”
Despite the “minor” trauma we endured from this little stunt, we couldn’t help but applaud the two for an iconic April Fools’ joke. We mean, what else would you expect from the Emmy-nominated actress?
Seriously, though: Arya needs to stick around ’til at least episode four. (Gonna go pray to the old gods and the new just in case.)
