Who Died Tonight on ‘Chicago P.D.’?

The best laid plans of Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) don’t always have a positive result and tonight’s episode of Chicago P.D. is proof that no matter how good a cop he is, sometimes evil prevails.

At the end of the “Survival” episode of Chicago P.D., Voight took Noah (Bobby Hogan) home with him to recover from his abduction and abuse at the hands of an unknown assailant. Noah is a homeless teen who moved to Chicago after his religious parents disowned him when they learned he was gay.

There was something about Noah that struck a chord with Voight, probably a resemblance to his late son Justin (Josh Segarra), so Voight wanted to give him a safe place to recover from his life-threatening ordeal and he invited Noah into his home and promised to find Noah’s abductor even though as a cop, he’s trained not to make promises.

“That’s the thing about Voight, one of the things about him is that he’s very present,” Beghe tells Parade. “And so, he doesn’t worry about tomorrow or feel bad about yesterday. He’s right here, right now and he knows ‘right now, I will find this [expletive]. I am going to find him, and I will handle this.’ True or not, he is certain.”

Initially, the Intelligence Unit believed Noah’s abductor might be his drug dealer, but when Noah was finally able to communicate with Voight, he told him no. And tonight, in the “Living and the Dead” episode, the evidence points to a serial killer when a barrel washes up on the waterfront containing the bodies of two women—sisters—who have wounds consistent with those like Noah had.

When Voight asks Noah about it, Noah has a panic attack and Voight doesn’t get anything out of him.

As a result of the two additional bodies, Josephine Petrovic (Bojana Novakovic), a SVU detective who has a reputation for being a skilled profiler, joins the investigation.

Finally, Noah explains that a man tied him up and told him to call the person he loved the most, so Noah called Paul Hansen, his boyfriend. Paul came when Noah told him he had a surprise for him. Noah knew it was a trick but didn’t want to die.

Noah was able to escape when one of his bindings came loose, but it was too late for Paul. Noah has immense guilt for leaving Paul and feels he was being punished for loving Paul, so when Noah gets a text from Paul’s phone saying he isn't dead, Noah responds. He tries to alert Voight, but Voight is so caught up in the investigation, he doesn’t immediately answer his calls and by the time he does, it's too late.

Who died tonight on Chicago, P.D.?

Noah is on his way to find Paul. He tells Voight that he's meeting Paul in the forest. He doesn't want to be alone so he needs to find Paul, so maybe he really does know that Paul is dead and doesn't want to live with the guilt.

At the end of the episode, a barrel is recovered from the river and Voight learns that Noah is dead. He’s dead despite Voight’s promise to find Noah's assailant, and Voight, who already has several deaths on his conscious, has to deal with one more.

“He didn’t say, ‘I’m not going to let you get…’ but he did the best he could,” Beghe says of Voight. “He’s disappointed, he’s sad. Probably so sad and so triggered that he can’t really fully experience it so he kind of goes back to his default reaction, which is fury and revenge and his idea of Voight justice. But that’s just in that moment. He’s got a certain fire underneath him now that is alive.”
