Breakfast, burgers, milkshakes and pie — what’s not to love about a good old-fashioned diner?

One diner in particular was named the best in Arizona by the LoveFood blog in February 2024, and it’s not in the Phoenix area.

Diners typically have an assortment of American comfort foods to fit your cravings from breakfast through dinner and dessert. All while providing a cozy at-home atmosphere and charming customer service.

The best diner in Arizona

Delgadillo’s Snow Cap in Seligman was named the best diner in Arizona by LoveFood.

They described the location as “delightfully ramshackle” and “busily decorated," noting that it’s a favorite spot among those traveling Route 66.

“Delgadillo’s Snow Cap was built using scrap materials in 1953 – and the interior matches the fa?ade, with a jumble of Americana signs and paraphernalia filling the walls and shelves,” the blog says. “Thankfully, the food (from burgers to burritos) is less ramshackle. The malts and tacos are glorious, and it even holds the Guinness World Record for 'Largest Display of Milkshakes Varieties.'”

It ended with stating that the diner closes for winter — around November — and reopens for spring.

In November 2023, Snow Cap was given a $40,000 grant by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The Delgadillo family’s roots in Seligman go back to the 1920s. The Disney movie “Cars” took inspiration from the area for its fictional town of Radiator Springs. Founder Juan Delgadillo and his brother Angel Delgadillo — a Route 66 historian and barber — were interviewed by the movie’s creators for ideas and got credited at the end of the film.

In 1978 when Interstate 40 opened two miles from the town, businesses took a hit. To preserve Route 66, Juan and Angel Delgadillo created the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona, according to 12 News.

While Juan and his wife, Mary Delgadillo, have passed away, the spot remains a family business.

Juan Delgadillo’s humor and antics were enjoyed by tourists, and his presence still shines in the establishment as its menu declares they’re the “Home of the ‘Cheeseburger with Cheese’ and ‘Dead Chicken.'”

The menu also states that “prices are subject to change according to customer’s attitude.”
