Discovery World named one of the best science museums in USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards
Discovery World was recently named one of the top science museums in the country by USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards.
According to 10Best, Discovery World was one of 20 science museums nominated by a panel of industry experts "as the best across the country for offering engaging exhibits, hands-on and immersive experiences and stellar programming."
After a four-week voting period, Discovery World earned enough votes to make it the sixth-best science museum in the country.
Here are a few exhibits and experiences Discovery World is known for:
The Reiman Aquarium includes a Caribbean Tunnel Tank which visitors can walk through as fish swim around them, as well as saltwater and freshwater touch tanks and periodic appearances by a mermaid who teaches about conservation while swimming among the wildlife.
Block Party is a hands-on exhibit area for younger kids to learn about engineering and local architecture as they use differently-shaped foam blocks to construct their own versions of famous Milwaukee buildings.
At the Kohl's Design It! Lab, visitors can choose from a menu of projects and use a variety of supplies to build their own creations to take home with them.
The Physics and You and Power On exhibits have a variety of hands-on experiences — including rocket-launching, circuit building and "tornado" touching — to teach visitors about physics and energy.
In the Simple Machine Shipyard, kids can use simple machines to move large objects, and at The Challenge — a replica of a Great Lakes schooner — kids can explore while they pretend to be working and living aboard a 19th-century sailing vessel.
