After remaining open for weeks in summer after its first full season in business, the café at the Mandel Recreation Center in Palm Beach will temporarily close for two weeks.

Seaview Café, which in the spring of 2023 replaced snack-and-beverage vending machines at the rec center with a fresh food-and-drink venue, will take a two-week hiatus starting July 27.

The break coincides with the end of summer day-camp sessions at the rec center, 340 Seaview Ave.

Plans call for Seaview Café — serving smoothies, coffee drinks, sandwiches, snacks, wraps and more, including organic fare — to reopen Aug. 12, when public schools in the area are set to reopen.

Capin plans to expand operating hours from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in early September, once the new school year begins at Palm Beach Day Academy.

“Children and parents appreciate everything we offer so it’s been important to be open for summer day camps and to always be open during the school year,” said the café’s owner Monika Meic Capin. She’s planning to travel to Europe to visit family and friends during the two-week hiatus.

“I look forward to a short vacation, but also to be back for the school year and season,” Capin said, noting recently added menu items include chocolate-chip croissants and blueberry muffins. “We’ll be ready and looking forward to a new season. For now, everyone can enjoy the café for the next several days and then we’ll be back.”
