Disneyland Paris hosts its first Bollywood wedding
A couple just fulfilled every Disney fanatic’s wildest dreams after they tied the knot in the first Bollywood wedding at Disneyland Paris.
Varun Bhanot and Anisha Seth, both 29, said “I do” in the history-making affair over a magical two-day bash held Sept. 6 and 7 at the French fairytale kingdom.
Merging Bollywood and Disney, the newlyweds exchanged vows in a midnight ceremony outside of the park’s world-famous castle and later threw a Hindu gathering by the theme park’s lake.
On the big day, 350 guests feasted on a banquet inspired by Aladdin with Indian and Middle Eastern dishes gracing the tables.
The newlyweds also shared their first dance with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Goofy — who all danced to Bhangra music at the one-of-a-kind bash.
In traditional fashion, the bride wore a grand total of four dresses, which included a white wedding gown followed by a series of vibrant lehengas, or embroidered skirts.
Celebrating the wedding well into the early hours of the morning, guests danced the night away in a Moulin Rouge-themed disco.
The bride, who is a self-confessed fan of Cinderella and The Lion King, said the wedding “was amazing but tiring, and I know our guests had a great time. I think it was definitely one of those things that you know has never been done.”
“People just enjoy the magic of the place,” she continued. “When we went on the rides, it was nice to see all the children enjoying the Disney magic.”
The London-based couple, who have been together for five years, spent almost a year planning the grand nuptials and even enjoyed Valentine’s Day there to get a feel for the place.
“Paris is the city of love — that all played into the idea,” Bhanot said. “We have been Disney fans for years, and we have organized big events together. We thought we would put our heads together and do something a bit different.”
The wedding is estimated to have cost tens of thousands of dollars but the couple managed to get Disneyland Paris to chip in for part of the festivities.
