Disney just straight up *removed* Louis C.K. from a few “Gravity Falls” episodes
In the wake of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood, many of those who have been accused are finding themselves out of work (like Kevin Spacey) and also completely cut from an upcoming movie release (also Kevin Spacey). While many of these changes have been highly publicized, Disney XD quietly removed Louis C.K. from Gravity Falls.
In 2015 and 2016, the comedian voiced the role of The Horrifying Sweaty One-Armed Monstrosity in two episodes of Disney XD’s series Gravity Falls, but in the wake of admitting numerous allegations of sexual misconduct, his role has been redubbed by series creator Alex Hirsch.
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney Channel representatives — who operates Disney XD, since it serves as a sister network for the Mouse — revealed that C.K. had been removed from the episode and replaced by Hirsch last month, adding that the C.K. version of the episodes will no longer be broadcast and the disgraced comedian would no longer be credited for the role.
“The role was re-recorded approximately one month ago and new versions of three episodes are now on the Disney XD schedule around the world,” a Disney Channels spokesperson confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter. “Series creator and executive producer Alex Hirsch is now credited as playing the character.”
In early November, C.K. suddenly canceled the premiere of his upcoming film I Love You, Daddy as well as a scheduled appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The following day The New York Times published an exposé detailing five accounts of women, the majority of whom were up and coming comedians at the time, who alleged that C.K. masturbated in front of them or audibly masturbated while on the phone with them — accounts that were all confirmed by C.K. himself.
Disney expunging C.K. from his work on its series comes on the heels of HBO, Netflix, and FX each severing all ties with the comedian. Additionally Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment axed C.K. from the sequel to The Secret Life of Pets, where he voiced the main character, a Jack Russell Terrier named Max.
