Disney star wears 'I Am a Michelle' T-shirt for New York Fashion Week
Skai Jackson is only 15, but she already knows where her allegiances lie. The Disney Channel star attended Prabal Gurung’s runway show at New York Fashion Week in the designer’s Michelle Obama merch — specifically, a shirt from his T-shirt series emblazoned with the words “I Am a Michelle.”

“Thank you @PrabalGurung for inviting me to your show and for spreading a message of inclusiveness and diversity!” Jackson wrote on Instagram.
Gurung’s show got especially political off the runway, with guests like Gloria Steinem, Huma Abedin, poet Rupi Kaur, and DeRay Mckesson making the audience a who’s who of famous feminists. (Tiffany Trump, who attended a few other shows this week, was nowhere to be seen.) Gurung himself sent a message with a shirt that said “Resist with <3.”
Jackson chose the Michelle merch from Gurung’s T-shirt series, created in response to our current political moment. For $195, you can make such fashion-political statements as “Love Is Love,” “Love Is the Resistance,” “This Is What a Feminist Looks Like,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fundamental Rights.”
Even if you don’t have a designer budget, there are other ways to sartorially honor the Obamas. Earlier this summer, Paris Jackson attended the MTV Movie and TV Awards in a colorful, graphic “Michelle My Belle” distressed tee. She’s in good company: Halle Berry wore the same look for the premiere of her movie Kidnap. “In honor of the strongest, most fierce woman there ever was… Repping @MichelleObama to the NY premiere of #KidnapMovie tonight ,,” she wrote on Instagram.

The T-shirt retails for less than $20 and is available online. There are also plenty of statement tees featuring our former first lady. Rep this T-shirt that says “Lifting to Get Arms Like Michelle Obama” to your next gym sesh, or keep it classy with one that says, “When they go low, we go high.”If you prefer a statement accessory, how about a big red hat that says Make Obama President Again?
Or, of course, you can just hang a portrait of her over your bed.
