Officials warn visitors about rabies incident near Disney World
The Florida Department of Health (FDOH) has issued a rabies alert for an area near two of Disney World’s most popular theme parks.
The FDOH in Orange County issued the 60-day alert on Tuesday after a feral cat near Disney’s famous Epcot and Hollywood Studio theme parks tested positive for rabies. Now, the organization is advising that people remain aware of other animals within the 2-mile radius area that may also be infected.

Representatives from Disney World didn’t immediately respond to Yahoo Lifestyle’s request for comment. However, the FDOH provided resources for anybody who has been bitten or scratched by a cat in the area of southwest Orange County. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “the rabies virus infects the central nervous system,” but can be prevented by staying away from wildlife and seeking medical care after potential exposure.
As of Wednesday evening, there have been no reports of park-goers impacted by the feral animal.
