This divorced mom turned her wedding ring into a heartwarming gift for her daughter

A divorced mom’s birthday gift for her daughter is going viral, and not just because it’s a pretty necklace. It’s because of what the necklace represents.

When Devin Petit’s parents got divorced more than 10 years ago, they remained steadfast in their commitment to raising their daughter together in Erie, Pennsylvania.

“My parents always maintained an amicable relationship and were really conscious of me and how I felt and always put me first,” she told BuzzFeed News. “Throughout my childhood they lived very close to each other and I spent near equal amount of time with both of them.”

Her mother, Karen Beardsley, was so determined to keep their former marriage as a positive symbol for her daughter that she turned her wedding band into a necklace for Devin’s 21st birthday.

The result? A gorgeous crossbar necklace, which Devin shared on social media this week.

“My mom gave me this necklace this morning as an early birthday gift,” she tweeted. “It’s made from the diamonds of her wedding band. She said although her marriage to my dad didn’t work out, they both agreed I was the best thing to come from it, which is why she wanted me to have it.”

Beardsley even went to the same jeweler who made her wedding ring to have her daughter’s necklace crafted.

“I think it represents successful co-parenting over the years and the love that both her dad and I have for her,” Beardsley told BuzzFeed.

Not surprisingly, social media got super emotional about the story, and even shared similar stories of their own.

It’s so comforting to know that when a family breaks apart, the love can be transformed in new and meaningful ways.
