The social network just released its 2019 Holiday Guide full of all the trends people are pinning for the season, from decor and recipes to holiday outfits and even gift-wrapping tips. But perhaps the most interesting takeaway? The gifts people are dreaming up this year.
As always, personalized and DIY gifts are a big trend, but what's particularly of note is that Pinterest users are super into gift baskets for 2019. Of the most popular DIY gifts search terms this year, "boyfriend gift basket" has grown exponentially, up a whopping 2,036 percent with "homemade gift baskets" also up by 452 percent. Alongside these categories, terms like "handmade scented candles" (which, by the way, are a great gift basket filler as well) are up 461 percent, and "BFF gifts" are up 199 percent, so people are looking to treat their besties, too. "Sustainable gifts" is a growing category as well, up 118 percent, so people are thinking more eco-consciously as they work their way through their gift lists, too. And self-care is also a big trend, with "self-care package gift ideas" up by 134 percent.
Sure, this isn't so much of a revelation—candles and gift baskets have long been staples of the holiday season, especially when you're not sure what to get an acquaintance or a loved one. But it does seem like people are looking for more curated gift baskets, as opposed to the generic ones you might typically picture.
The good news is, these are just about the easiest DIY gifts you can ever put together—just buy a pretty basket, decorate it as you like, and fill it up with smaller gifts you know the recipient will love.
