Doctor falls to his death in Ibiza after reportedly trying to take a photo during hike
A 34-year-old doctor on vacation with his fiancée has died in Spain after he slipped and fell while hiking, according to a GoFundMe page created on behalf of his loved ones.
The fundraiser says that Dr. Daniel Sirovich and fiancée Kristi Kelly were sightseeing in Ibiza’s Sa Pedrera de Cala d’Hort when he lost his footing and fell 82 feet to his death. Kelly’s mother, Mary Ann Kelly, told the Staten Island Advance that Sirovich, whom she described as “the most beautiful soul you’ve ever met,” was trying to take a photo of the scenic view when he fell.
“It’s a horrible end to a beautiful romance,” she said of his death, noting that Sirovich was due to marry her 28-year-old daughter next year after getting engaged in 2016. Kelly added that the avid travelers were in Ibiza after a music festival they planned to attend in England was rained out, prompting a last-minute getaway.
According to the Miami Herald, the Brazilian-born New Jersey native had lived in Miami while completing his residency at Kendall Regional Medical Center — where colleagues will be holding a vigil in his memory on Wednesday — but was planning a move to Boston.
“He was moving to Boston in 10 days for the position he waited so long for, to be a doctor in the intensive care trauma unit,” friend Gui Ramos wrote on the GoFundMe page. “Someone who saved many lives didn't receive the opportunity to have someone save his... “
The GoFundMe for Sirovich’s family has exceeded its $30,000 goal. According to the fundraiser, the money will be used to fly Sirovich’s body home and cover funeral expenses.
“Unfortunately it takes something in this scale to happen, to remind us how there are good people out there willing to help those when they need it the most,” an update on the page read after donations flooded in.
Just days before his fatal fall, Sirovich had mused about tragedy in a Facebook post reacting to the mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton.
“Sometimes we do not realize how precious but fragile our lives are,” he wrote.
