Dog Food Is Being Recalled Across Multiple States—Here's What You Need to Know

Pawrents, it's time to check your pup's food stash because there's another recall happening right now that you need to know about. This week, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) announced that TFP Nutrition has issued a recall for a popular dog food brand across multiple states.
In an October 21 recall notice, the FDA noted that the company's voluntary recall of the Retriever All Life Stages Mini Chunk Recipe Dry Dog Food is due to potential Salmonella contamination. While the number of affected bags was not indicated, the bags were said to all be produced in the company's Nacogdoches, Texas facility.
According to the FDA, the product in question was manufactured on both October 4, 2023 and October 5, 2023 and currently only includes the 50-pound bags of the product. Production codes 3277 TFP and 3278 TFP are found on the second line of the date code, and the "Best By" date of the affected product both have 10 2024 listed.
The potential contamination was discovered when a single sample of the dog food tested positive for the bacteria during a random sample test conducted by the Office of the Texas State Chemist. Shoppers of Tractor Supply Company stores in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Texas, and Utah are the indicated pet owners who are included in the recall.

For those unaware, salmonella can affect animals in way similar to humans. Symptoms can include fever, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, and lethargy. Some pets, however, may only experience decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. And while your pup is at risk of contamination through consumption of the affected product, pawrents are at risk through handling contaminated food—especially if thorough hand washing is not implemented once done.
Though all of the affected dog food variety has been removed from Tractor Supply's shelves, if you happen to have any of the product in question still in your possession, both the FDA and TFP Nutrition urge you to return the bag back to a Tractor Supply Company store near you for a full refund or a replacement bag of food. Unfortunately, this isn't the first dog food has been recalled recently. Just last month, more than 600 cases of Victor dog food was recalled for the exact same reason.
