Dog Mom Shares the Heartbreaking Story of How Her Corgi Lost His Voice

Gabrielle LaFrank
2 min read

Watson the Corgi has the most caring owner who advocates for him when he can't, but unfortunately, that wasn't always the case. Before he was rescued, this precious boy was 'debarked' in order to prevent him from making noise. All because of complaints in his family's apartment building, he underwent completely unnecessary surgery to remove part of his vocal cords.

He was still surrendered despite having had the surgery, but that gave him the chance to meet @teresa_jack--his true owner. Even though she can't erase what happened to her pup, she's already become an incredible advocate for ending this cruel practice.

Sharing Watson’s Story. END DOG DEBARKING! Don’t patronize veterinarians who provide this service! His life changed forever because people made a choice that wasn’t in his best interest and then abandoned him. #dogs #veterinarian #dogsoftiktok #rescuedog #debarkingpuppies #debarking #dogdevocalization #trauma #animalshelter #doglover

Ugh--how could anyone do this to their dog? It seems completely cruel and dangerous for everyone involved. It takes away a pup's main method of communication!

"I had no idea debarking was a thing," wrote commenter @p.pardon.n. "That’s absolutely horrific. I’m so glad he has a better life now." We're super relieved, too. Watson's life could've been so much more difficult after the surgery if it weren't for his new mama.

"I feel the same way when it comes to declawing cats," @kmcunninghaam91. "It causes so many issues!! Debarking and declawing should be illegal across all states!!" We couldn't agree more. Luckily, Watson and his mom are already taking legal action to fight against this awful procedure.

If you feel inspired to join Teresa, Watson, and tons of dog lovers in speaking against debarking, you can sign their Change.org petition. Teresa also mentioned a meeting with her local Senator--so we're more than ready to help Watson's Law become common law.
