Dolce & Gabbana Evokes the Jungle for Its Spring 2020 Collection
Safari, but make it fashion.
Earth's natural wonders are surely on designers' minds for Spring 2020. At Milan Fashion Week on Sunday, Dolce & Gabbana transformed the Metropol into a chic jungle, complete with lush greenery and a catwalk emblazoned with leopard print, as well as the cushions of the venue's seats. As for the collection, the general theme was essentially safari, but it make fashion — high fashion.
Models sped across the runway — there were 120-plus total looks to get through — in its first inspired theme: khaki utility ensembles accented with leopard print and other animal motifs. A variety of jungle-inspired prints popped up throughout the collection, including palm leaves, tropical florals, pineapples, coconuts and even West African instruments. A play on texture was a high point among the looks; the designers paired a silk top with sequin shorts, for example, and a slew of outfits were made from straw, macrame and raffia.
A Dolce & Gabbana collection wouldn't be complete without its all-black ensembles. The designer duo balanced the many eye-catching patterns and embellishments on the runway with more somber, dark-hued looks that arrived intermittently throughout the show: form-fitting dresses, sheer separates and, of course, Sicilian lace. Consider this particular selection for your après-safari wardrobe.
