Dolly Parton Says You Never See Her Without Makeup, Because She Literally Sleeps in It
Country singer Dolly Parton is known for her signature look, including rhinestoned outfits and lots of makeup.
In a recent interview, Dolly revealed that fans will never know what she looks like without that makeup.
When you hear the name "Dolly Parton," chances are your mind immediately conjures up an image of sparkly outfits, teased blonde hair, and bold makeup. After all, the legendary country singer has an iconic look we've all come to know and love.
If you've ever wondered if you'll see Dolly without her signature makeup one day, however, the answer to that is a resounding no. Because as Dolly herself recently revealed in a June interview with The New York Times that she actually sleeps with her makeup on.
"I clean my face in the mornings," Dolly spilled to the Times. "You never know if you're going to wreck the bus, you never know if you're going to be somewhere in a hotel and there's going to be a fire. So I leave my makeup on at night and clean my face in the morning."
Yep, you read that right: Dolly actually leaves her makeup on overnight, just in case something comes up and she has to jump up out of bed and into the outside world — so even if you catch Dolly mid-snooze, you'll find in her full glam. (Psst: This tactic is not recommended by dermatologists, who advise that you remove your makeup at the end of the day in order to avoid clogging your pores and breaking out.)
Of course, Dolly's commitment to her signature look is something she's been extremely open about all throughout her legendary career. Her makeup (which she always does herself, according to her longtime creative director) is part of who she is, and even when others have suggested she "tone her look down" to appeal to a broader audience, she's stood her ground.
"I said, 'You know what? I can't separate the two. This is who I am,'" Dolly told Elle in October. "I not only didn't tone it down, I figured if my work was truly good enough, people would eventually recognize that. It was about me knowing who I was, being happy with me, and feeling comfortable in the way I presented myself. If I was happy, I could make other people happy. That's how I've always looked at it: that I look totally artificial, but I am totally real, as a writer, as a professional, as a human being. A rhinestone shines just as good as a diamond."
So there you have it: Dolly's look (makeup included) is unapologetically her, and you'll never catch her without it — even in a middle-of-the-night emergency situation. We can't help but respect the level of dedication!
