Her sons are two of the biggest names in football, but she’s never experienced anything quite like this. Donna Kelce’s response to Travis and Taylor Swift‘s romance—and the haters—was perfect and thinks it’s been great for the sport.

In late September 2023, The Messenger reported that “Taylor and Travis have been quietly hanging out,” according to a source who spoke to the outlet. “She saw him when she was in NYC a few weeks ago,” the insider said.

Two months prior, Travis seemingly opened up about his crush on the singer during an episode of the podcast “New Heights,” in which he revealed that he tried to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it before one of her concerts for her Eras Tour at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. “I was disappointed that she doesn’t talk before or after her shows because she has to save her voice for the 44 songs that she sings, so I was a little butthurt I didn’t get to hand her one of the bracelets I made for her,” he admitted at the time.

The football player’s brother, Jason Kelce, had a funny theory as to why Taylor didn’t end up meeting them that night: “She probably just hasn’t gotten over the Super Bowl yet,” Jason joked. “She’s a big Eagles fan, so maybe she just made something up and didn’t want to talk to you,” to which Travis quipped, “Dammit!” Now that their romance is all but confirmed, Momma Kelce has some words for any haters of her son’s budding relationship.

Donna Kelce responded to Travis and Taylor haters by telling them to “shake it off” during an interview with the Got It From My Momma podcast, as a reference to one of Taylor’s biggest hits, while also referencing “Bad Blood” elsewhere in the interview. While Taylor’s publicized interest in football has given the sport a significant boost—sales of Travis Kelce jerseys have been boosted around 400 percent—there are some (mostly sexist) detractors saying she and her Swifties are “ruining the game”. Sit down, kids.

But Donna went on to say that the fanfare around it has been “surreal” and that “it’s something I never thought I’d be involved with,” she explained to host Jennifer Vickery Smith, adding, “I can tell you this, that they’ve told me personally that the Kelce family has done more good PR for football than they could have paid a $1 million to a PR firm. Good for them. They’re getting the ramifications of everything.”

Travis and Taylor’s soft launch

Taylor was spotted having a great time alongside Donna at the Kansas City Chiefs game against the Chicago Bears on September 24, which was all the proof anyone needed that the rumors of a relationship were true. Later, Travis addressed her being there on his podcast New Heights. “She looked amazing. … I just thought it was awesome how everyone in the suite had nothing but great things to say about her — the friends and family,” he said. “Shoutout to Taylor for coming through and seeing me rock the stage.”

“To see the slow-motion chest bumps, to see the high fives with mom, to see how Chiefs kingdom was all excited that she was there, that s–t was absolutely hysterical and it was definitely a game I’ll remember,” podcast co-host Travis’ brother Jason said.

In a post-game interview, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes talked about how he felt when he heard that a certain someone was in the stadium. “I heard she was in the house,” the quarterback said when he was asked a question about the Midnights singer and his teammate.

“I felt a little bit of pressure, and so I knew I had to get it to Trav,” referring to the touchdown that Taylor celebrated in a suite with Travis’ mother.

“He does his own thing and just makes up a route, and I throw it to him,” Mahomes said. “I think he wanted to get in the end zone just as much as all the Swifties wanted him to.”

Taylor was then photographed at the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the New York Jets on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey—the Jets’ home field. Photos of Taylor at the game showed her backstage in a black jacket, black sweater, and blue jeans before she took her Kelce’s VIP box with a group of famous friends including Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Sophie Turner, Sabrina Carpenter, Antoni Porowski, and Hugh Jackman.

Taylor named Blake and Ryan’s’ daughters—James, Inez, and Betty—after characters in her songs “Cardigan,” “August,” and “Betty” from her 2020 album, Folklore. Sophie was married to Taylor’s ex-boyfriend, Joe Jonas. Sabrina is an opening act for the South American, Australian, and Asian dates of Taylor’s Eras Tour. Antoni starred in Taylor’s 2019 music video for the song “You Need to Calm Down,” along with his Queer Eye cast.

According to Page Six, Taylor and Travis also spent the night together before his big game day. An insider told the publication that the NFL player was spotted doing the “walk of shame” at around 11 a.m. local time, just hours before his game. Apparently, Travis was seen leaving Taylor’s parking garage in her black Range Rover and headed to his hotel across the Hudson in New Jersey to get ready for the Chiefs’ match against the Jets at MetLife Stadium, where he greeted paparazzi and appeared to be in good spirits.
