Doylestown bar opens for Memorial Day weekend, focus on cocktails, tequila, small bites
After a successful Cinco de Mayo pop-up earlier this month, Lula is set to officially open in time for Memorial Day.
Opening Thursday in the former Zen Den space on East State Street in downtown Doylestown, Lula kicks off the holiday weekend with its “Summer Series” collaboration with local restaurant owner, Kendall Bajek of Empanada Mama and Nourish by MAMA.
The new bar will feature specialty cocktails and flights with a focus on tequila and mezcal, paired with a small bites menu crafted by Bajek.
“I’m really excited to put out a menu that’s affordable and focused on sharing,” said Bajek, who has committed to partnering with Lula owners, Lynn and Bill Goldman, through the summer into Labor Day weekend.
The property, which the Goldmans own, has hosted a few local business pop-ups and undergone interior renovations since the closing of Zen Den in 2020. Lula’s opening will mark the building’s first comeback as a food-and-drink establishment.
Its interior provides a bright atmosphere with Mexican flair designed to draw in locals and visitors alike who are looking for a fun and casual spot to grab a couple drinks and shareable plates while out enjoying the town.
Combining their years of experience in the Doylestown restaurant scene, Bajek said she and the Goldmans are excited to take on this new adventure.
“It’s something that’s just kind of fun and different without a clear identity, and that’s kind of the beauty of it,” she said.
