Dragon’s Dogma 2: Everything We Learned In Capcom’s Latest Showcase
Dragons Dogma 2
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is just a few months away, and we have a feeling it’s going to be a bit of a hit when it finally lands. Earlier this week, Capcom held a showcase showing off a host of new information for the game, including its official release date — though that release date surprisingly leaked a couple weeks ago.
The showcase, which lasted for about 15 minutes, went over the Dragon’s Dogma 2 release date (of course), special editions for the game, the story and setting, and the gameplay and combat mechanics. It’s pretty detailed overall, and if you’re interested in the game you should definitely give it a watch in full.
If you don’t have the time, or you don’t want to commit to the full 15-minute video because you’re not sure about the game yet, we put together this brief(er) overview of all the things we saw in the presentation.
The most obvious news was the release date for Dragon’s Dogma 2, which was confirmed to be March 22, 2024. Preorders are live now for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, and there are actually two versions available.
The first is the standard edition, which is exactly what you’d expect — it comes with the game and nothing more. There’s also a deluxe edition, which comes with the New Journey Pack, containing in-game items like a custom camping kit, a Dragon’s Heart stone, rift crystals, Dragon’s Dogma music and sounds, and more. All preorders will net you a bonus weapon for each of the starting jobs, while preorders for the deluxe edition will also have a Ring of Serenity.
The story will sound pretty familiar for anyone who’s played the first game. The gist of it is that you’ll play as the Arisen, a powerful champion whose heart had been stolen by a dragon. You’ll be placed into a world of opposing nations, each with its own idea of how to deal with the threat of the dragon. There’s also a false Arisen installed by the Queen Regent of Vermund, while the kingdom of Battahl is turning to cults to try and wipe out Pawns. It sounds wild.

As with the first game, you’ll be able to create your own character, as well as a pawn to help aid you on your quest. You’ll be able to pick from a few different starting classes, but later on you’ll be able to shift to other classes, including the new Trickster class. You can also pick a personality for your Pawn, which will change how it interacts both with the world and with other characters.
We also got to see a few interesting enemies, including the new Talos, which is a huge bronze golem that can mess you up with a single step.We also saw a headless specter that seems utterly terrifying, and the fearsome Drake, which can fly and breathe fire.
All in all, it’s looking like Dragon’s Dogma 2 is shaping up to be an incredible new sequel to a game that is criminally underlooked. With any luck, it’ll live up to the hype.
