Who are The Try Guys?

In 2014, BuzzFeed employees Ned Fulmer, Eugene Lee Yang, Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfield formed “The Try Guys.” The group of men would try things like “ladies’ underwear” or “labor pain simulation” in videos for BuzzFeed’s YouTube channel. The Try Guys YouTube channel currently has 7.84 million followers.

The Try Guys was a success, and in 2018, the group left BuzzFeed to form their own production company and make their own content. By 2021 the foursome had 24 employees and a show on Food Network called No Recipe Road Trip with the Try Guys.

But on Sept. 27, The Try Guys announced that Ned would no longer be working with the company after an “internal review.”

Why did Ned Fulmer leave The Try Guys?

Fans on The Try Guys subreddit were the first to notice Ned’s absence from the group’s most recent content. People had their theories. Some alleged that Ned was edited out of the videos during post production.

But eventually, screenshots surfaced (posted on Twitter by @camitwomeyy) that allegedly showed Ned kissing a woman who was not his wife at a nightclub.

The woman in question is allegedly Alex Herring, a producer from The Try Guys who has appeared in their “Food Babies” video series. Shortly after, The Try Guys announced on Instagram that Ned is no longer working with them.

“Ned Fulmer is no longer working with the Try Guys. As a result of a thorough internal review, we do not see a path forward together,” the post read. It received over 576,000 likes and 26,000 comments in 22 hours.

The “official thread for Ned’s removal” on the subreddit received over 19,200 upvotes and 5,200 comments in 22 hours. To understand why the internet is in turmoil over Ned’s expulsion from the group, you have to understand his brand. Ariel is pretty central to his appeal.

The Verge writes Ned’s “public persona revolves around being a husband,” and that he’s sold a cookbook and T-shirts centered on date nights and jokes about his affection for his wife. Moreover, “he’s successfully built a fan base and brand around this relationship specifically.”

Ned Fulmer acknowledges extramarital affair

Ned posted a message about the situation on Twitter.

“Family should have always been my priority, but I lost focus and had a consensual workplace relationship. I’m sorry for any that my actions may have caused to the guys and the fans but most of all to Ariel,” he wrote.

“The only thing that matters right now is my marriage and my children, and that’s where I am going to focus my attention.”

“Thanks to everyone who has reached out to me — it means a lot. Nothing is more important to me and Ned than our family, and all we request right now is that you respect our privacy for the sake of our kids,” Ariel wrote in an Instagram post.
