Drew Barrymore Reveals Which of Her Movies Her Daughters Love Most
Drew Barrymore’s daughters have great taste in movies. The Santa Clarita Diet star recently sat down for a chat on Good Morning America, where she revealed that while her zombie-related series is a hit with fans, her girls would rather watch Ever After and 50 First Dates.
Ever After, which debuted in 1998, featured Barrymore as a more enlightened, feminist Cinderella, while 2004’s 50 First Dates saw her fall in love over and over again with longtime friend Adam Sandler. (She played a woman with no short-term memory.)
“It’s weird, if anyone comes over and my movie’s playing, I’m like, ‘I swear to God, I’m not that [egotistical] jerk that’s like, ‘Here, kids, we’re watching [my films],'” she joked of Olive, 6, and Frankie, 4.
“But they call it a ‘mom movie’ and they just enjoy watching it, and I’m proud of who I am and what I’ve done and especially the messages,” Barrymore continued. “I made them exactly for what young girls and boys feel. We’re all just trying to find love, be kind, and kick some ass here and there.”
GMA host Michael Strahan asked about another of Barrymore’s iconic movies, 1982’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, which the star filmed when she was barely older than her daughters are now. “They’ve seen E.T., yeah,” Barrymore said. “Olive hasn’t really gravitated toward it as much as I would’ve thought so far, but I think she’ll get back into it.”
She added that her eldest is currently into another ’80s film that does not feature her mom: “She loves The Goonies.”
The girls haven’t yet gotten into Barrymore’s newest show, Santa Clarita Diet, but they do visit her on set. In fact, Olive was present when the actress was filming a scene where her character is stabbed with a fork, and “she didn’t like that,” Barrymore recalled. “I was like, ‘No, look, it’s fake!'”
