Drones Open the Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2018 Show
Dolce & Gabbana does not do understated. For the past few seasons designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have put on production after production featuring millennial models and musical performances, complete with a Top 40 soundtrack to jam to.
After staging an eveningwear show called Secrets & Diamonds on Saturday night featuring young royals as models, Sunday's 2PM extravaganza open followed suit.
As we filed into to the show, basilica music was interrupted every so often by announcements in both English and Italian that the show could not start if show-goers did not turn off their WiFi. What could we possibly be in store for? 45 minutes later we were still eagerly awaiting.
When the show started, church bells rang and Kendrick Lamar and SZA's "All of the Stars" played from the speakers. A series of bags flew down the runway via drone to resounding applause from the audience.
That explains the WiFi situation.
As for the clothes, the designers played on the idea of sinners and saints, devotees and detractors - but all related to the church of fashion.
With more than 100 looks, the brand provided something for everyone:
Signature shapes and colors:
A model holding a prop a la Gucci, Tod's, a few other shows this Milan Fashion Week:
Statement coats:
And of course, a red carpet gown or two:
There were even a few pieces that seemed inspired by Bruno Mars' music video ode to In Living Color:
Some may think this is over the top, but I couldn't help but smile. Fashion takes itself quite seriously (not that there's anything wrong with that!) but it's always nice to have a fun with your clothes - something the design duo has mastered in spades.
