The Drugstore Mascara VS Angel Lais Ribeiro Swears By

Victoria's Secret Angel Lais Ribeiro filled InStyle in on the best drugstore waterproof mascara. Find out more of her summer beauty must-haves, here.

In the five years that I’ve lived in the city, I’ve found it nearly impossible to find a mascara that doesn’t flake off my lashes and smear all over my face minutes after I walk into the sauna that is Manhattan in August. For every 10 I try, maybe one stays put. If only I had followed Victoria’s Secret Angel Lais Ribeiro’s advice sooner.

Ribeiro filled me in on some of her summer beauty must-haves, including the all-time best drugstore mascara to stock up on when summer hits. I assume walking down the runway wearing wings (which reportedly weigh up to 18 lbs.) is hot AF, so I trust her instincts.

"I definitely like to keep my beauty products on the lighter side during the summer, but there are a few things I can’t live without," she told me. "I’m a huge fan of all of Maybelline’s mascaras, but the waterproof ones in the summer are the way to go because you get all hot and sweaty so it helps keep it from smudging everywhere."

While all of them get Ribeiro's stamp of approval, I'd guide you to Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara in Very Black. It coats your lashes in a deep pigment, while giving them length, a slight curl, and a boost of volume. It's also only $7.

That wasn't nearly her only budge-proof beauty recommendation, though. Ribeiro says if you're looking for a matte lipstick that doesn't smear, pick up Victoria’s Secret Velvet Matte Cream Lip Stains in Perfection or Love. Sure, she might work for the brand, but it's also a claim I can vouch for – the lightweight formula creates a wash of color that lasts through sweat and multiple cups of coffee.

When it comes to preventing foundation and concealer from dripping off her face, she swears by Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer.

Now, if she only had advice on a deodorant that lasts through a 45-minute subway ride to work.
