Women with confidence in their style know that all it takes to put together a strong look is the right mix. Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, demonstrated her mastery of the high-high mix - that’s ‘high’ as in luxury fashion, and then ‘high’ as in high-street - with the outfit she chose for the Sentebale Polo Cup on Thursday.

Meghan, supporting husband Prince Harry at the event at the Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club, wore a classic, Fifties-style dark denim dress with a crossover bodice, belted waist and slash pockets in the full skirt- a look which emulates the mid-century chic look she has been borrowing from since her marriage in May.

The dress, from Carolina Herrera, one of Meghan’s favourite American fashion houses, will cost more than £2,000 when it reaches retailers.

But rather than carry a handbag with a four-figure price tag to match, the Duchess chose a £44.00 rattan half-moon clutch from J.Crew. This choice is one concession to affordability amidst the super-luxe choices which Meghan has mostly been making of late, with Givenchy and Dior Couture, Fendi handbags and diamonds amongst her new normal go-tos.

She completed her look with Tom Ford cat-eye acetate sunglasses, Birks blue topaz earrings and nude Aquazzura bow-backed pumps. With polo matches now high on Meghan's agenda, she's mastered a casually elegant mix which works.

This is the second time that Meghan has worn Carolina Herrera for an official event. Previously, she wore a blush-pink off-the-shoulder top and skirt by the designer for Trooping the Colour, and she also wore a Herrera ball gown for her Vanity Fair shoot last year.

By wearing American- Ralph Lauren and Oscar de la Renta are also new favourites- the Duchess shows support for labels from her home nation. Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta are names synonymous with Park Avenue Princess glamour, but both now have young designers reinventing the look at their helm; Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia at ODLR and Wes Gordon at Herrera. No doubt Meghan is their perfect modern posterwoman.
