'Duck Dynasty's Mia Robertson Pauses College to Undergo 15th Surgery
As Mia Robertson–the youngest of Duck Dynasty stars Jace and Missy Robertson's three children–prepares to undergo her 15th jaw surgery, she's opening up about the difficult decision to take a break from college classes.
Robertson shared her plans to take a hiatus from school during her sophomore year of college in a statement she shared via Instagram on Monday, Aug. 21.
"my 15th surgery is tomorrow morning," the 19-year-old began, referring to the multiple surgeries she's already had to correct the bilateral cleft lip and palate she was born with. "I wish i could say that i get used to my surgeries, but i never do.tomorrow was supposed to be my first day of my sophomore year of college, but the Lord had other plans."
"Instead of waking up in my new dorm room, heading to my new classes, i’ll be heading into a month of pain and weakness," she continued. "It’s times like these where i am reminded that God is above, beneath, before, and behind me. He’s got me. Why should I ever doubt that He doesn’t? He’s already protected me from 14 surgeries, what’s one more? ??."
Along with the poignant post, Robertson included a carefree sepia-colored photo of herself hanging out in a peaceful grassy field.
Her mom, Missy, also took to the picture-sharing site to wish her daughter well before the surgery, noting that this procedure "is major."
"Tomorrow @miarobertson1 will have surgery #15. It is major. She’s had this surgery twice before, and because of some unseen complications from the last one, it has to be done again," Missy explained. "Please pray for it to be successful, for the skilled hands of Dr Law and for that oh-so-important anesthesia cocktail that will make or break her immediate recovery. We are so so blessed to be only 4 1/2 hours away from one of the most skilled surgeons in this industry and one of the kindest men we’ve ever met. We have every confidence in the International craniofacial institute and thank God that He lead us to them 20 years ago!"
The reality TV star, along with the help of her family, thoroughly documented her journey online and on the show–which has, so far, included surgeries to correct the cleft lip as well as her palate, lips and nasal passages, and bone graft surgeries to her jaw.
In March 2021, the teen shared a photo of herself in the hospital ahead of her 13th surgery with her parents by her side. The carousel of images also included a snap of the star video chatting with her friends and a compilation video of well-wishes from loved ones put together while she recovered.
In addition to raising awareness of their daughter's condition, the Robertons also founded the Mia Moo Fund in 2014 to provide financial support for other children born with cleft lip and palate.
We wish Mia nothing but the best as she recovers!
