Dune 3 Almost Finished, Confirms Director
Dune: Part Two has yet to hit cinemas, but director Denis Villeneuve has suggested its sequel isn’t far behind.
The screenplay for Dune 3 is almost finished. At a recent press conference in South Korea, Villeneuve revealed his script is almost complete.
"[Dune Messiah] is being written right now," he says. "The screenplay is almost finished, but it's not finished. It will take a little time." (Something that is finished is our Dune: Part Two trailer breakdown.)
Based off Frank Herbert’s 1956 novel of the same name, we have a rough idea of what to expect. Namely, that Paul Atreides is now Emperor of the known universe, but his power comes at the cost of billions of lives. And, according to Villeneuve, the third instalment marks "the end of [Paul’s] journey."
So, when does Dune 3 release? “I don’t know exactly when I will go back to Arrakis,” Villeneuve said. “I might make a detour before just to go away from the sun. For my mental sanity I might do something in between, but my dream would be to go a last time on this planet that I love.”
Dune: Part Two premiers March 2024.
