Duvet Coats Are Trending & They’re Every Bit as Comfortable as the Blanket on Your Bed
Fashion in the year 2020 has been all about comfort: Sweatsuits! Cashmere! Orthopedic footwear! So, it should come as no surprise that the top outerwear trend for this winter is heavily inspired by one of the most comfy, cozy pieces in our homes. The duvet. Yes, bedding-inspired puffers are trending, according to global shopping platform Lyst. Searches for “duvet coats” have been on the rise since the beginning of November and are expected to only continue on that upward track as we head into the new year.
What exactly is a duvet coat? And how does it differ from a regular puffer?
Well, there are a few key style notes. First, the material used is softer than your typical winter jacket (especially waterproof styles, which tend to have a plastic-y feel) and has little to no shine. They all feature quilted detailing, some with intricate waves or close-knit diamonds, others with more spaced-out squares, to mimic the look of your baffle box bedding. And while many styles come in a wrap silhouette (giving the illusion that you simply wrapped yourself up in your duvet after it sprouted sleeves), some have a simple zipper or button closure. You won’t find any excess zippers, snaps, hardware or faux fur trims on these minimalist designs, but that just leaves room for you to play with brightly colored or patterned hats, gloves and scarves.
What are the most popular duvet coats du jour?
The top styles searched for on Lyst are the Arket Long Down Puffer Coat and Totême’s Quilted Annecy Coat, both of which have been regularly selling out online (fingers crossed for some restocks soon). Luckily, we found 11 additional duvet styles that are just as stylish and every bit as comfortable as your actual bed cover.
