Dwyane Wade Shuts Down Trolls Who Criticized His Son’s Manicured Nails and Crop Top
Dwyane Wade shut down trolls after they came for a family photo featuring his son Zion wearing manicured nails and a crop top.
Dwyane said, “As a parent, my only goal is that my kids feel that I see them, love them and support them.”
While the rest of us were forming a beautiful friendship with pie over Thanksgiving weekend, Gabrielle Union posted a truly gorgeous photo of her family—including her husband Dwyane Wade, his son Zion, and the couple’s daughter Kaavia James. And because the internet can be truly ugh, a bunch of less-than-kind trolls hit her comments to criticize the fact that Zion is wearing long nails and a crop top. Which I hope we can all agree is literally no one’s business, let alone the business of a bunch of strangers on the internet.
The comments aren’t worth giving the time of day here, but suffice it to say they are judgmental and unkind. To the point where Dwyane hit Twitter to shut everyone down, saying, “I’ve seen some post-Thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is a part of this world we live in—so I get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!”
The uplifting news is that he got a lot of positive feedback, including from someone who wrote, “Idk if @DwyaneWade & @itsgabrielleu know how POWERFUL & MOVING it is that they’re embracing their son's individuality. (Damnit I’m crying) In our community, being given autonomy over your body, beliefs, image, & statements as a child isn’t a thing. That child is free & happy.”
Dwyane ended up responding to this, writing, “As a parent, my only goal is that my kids feel that I see them, love them and support them.”
Father of the damn year!
