A+E Networks Poaches Faye Penn from InStyle

Faye Penn, InStyle’s executive editor, is leaving Time Inc. for A+E Networks where she will serve as vice president of editorial for Lifetime.

At her new job, Penn will help develop digital content across Lifetime, as well as A+E Networks’ female-focused brands, Lifetime Movies and FYI in order to “further establish these brands’ authority” as a leading voice for women across the media landscape, the company said. She will report to Lea Goldman, editor in chief of Lifetime, Lifetime Movies and FYI.

“Faye is a brilliant idea machine deft at thinking broadly about content. It’s not just about what you make, but where it lives and how it’s distributed,” said Goldman. “She is a digital native with a deep understanding of content and how to amplify it. As a writer, editor and entrepreneur who launched her own start-up and spearheaded important branded partnerships that helped make InStyle one of the most talked about beauty and fashion media outlets in America, I know she will be a valuable asset to the editorial team here at A+E Networks.”

Penn comes to A+E after a two-year stint at InStyle where she recently served as executive editor in a hybrid role that combined print and digital editorial with business development and brand extensions. Prior to that, Penn held leadership roles at New York Magazine, The New York Observer and The New York Post.

In 2009 she founded Brokelyn, a web-mag devoted to budget living in Brooklyn, and later spun off a series of beer, wine and cocktail passports.

A+E Networks’ editorial team was kicked off in January, with Goldman as editor in chief of Lifetime, Lifetime Movies and FYI and Tiffanie Darke as editor in chief of A&E and History. Both Goldman and Darke have been charged to lead editorial strategy, which includes developing and coordinating writing, and creating and curating content for use on-air, across digital and on social platforms. They also support the company’s efforts to initiate non-traditional strategic partnerships, events and sponsorship opportunities.
