EAA Chapter 5 sets dates for Summer Youth Aviation Camp

Mar. 23—The members of the Experimental Aviation Association Chapter 5 recently announced that enrollment for their annual week-long day camp for students going into grades 6 through 10 who are interested in flying.

The EAA Chapter 5 Summer Youth Aviation Camp will take place July 8-12 for new campers at the Geauga County Airport in Hangar 3 from 9 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. and is designed for kids with a real interest in aviation, according to a news release.

Students will actively participate in learning about aerodynamics, parts of a plane, the engine, flight operations, careers in aviation; will develop skills in map reading, riveting, woodworking and building; and will be given opportunities to tour the airport facilities and to "fly" on flight simulators, the release stated.

There will be daily activities such as glider flying contests and scientific experimentation, as well as recreational fun activities. After the camp, there will be an opportunity for campers to take a Young Eagle Flight on July 13 with July 14 as the rain date.

Space in the camp is limited to 18 students to allow for more hands-on opportunities. Registration forms and $150 fee are due by May 23.

A T-shirt, hat and supplies are included; participants should bring their own lunch though snacks will be provided.

Scholarships are available, the release stated. Corporate sponsorship positions are also available, and those interested can inquire about levels.
