  • Criminal Minds star Matthew Gray Gubler posted a photo celebrating a milestone for the show.

  • In the picture, there appears to be a few strange things going on.

  • Fans immediately took notice and questioned what exactly is happening in the image.

Apparently Criminal Minds fans have learned a thing or two from the show about carefully analyzing situations. Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays supervisory special agent Dr. Spencer Reid, recently posted a photo celebrating the drama's 300th episode. Although the picture was meant to be a sweet tribute to the hardworking cast and crew, fans noticed something was amiss.

First, Matthew uploaded a video arm wrestling with one of the crew members on Twitter with the caption: "Thank you most of all to the Criminal Minds crew. the reason keith is stronger than me is because he and the entire crew have been carrying us on their shoulders for 15 seasons. you guys are my best friends and i love you all like family. i want a rematch!" He then included a photograph of everyone on set.

There are dozens of faces in the photo, but Twitter users immediately called out one in particular. "Who is hiding in the recycling can?" they asked, adding a zoomed-in screen shot as evidence.

Someone else wondered the same thing. "So we’re ignoring the fact there’s a person in the trash?"

Other commentators observed more bizarre bits. One follower pointed out that not only is there someone in the receptacle, but there also appears to be a person "floating" right above them.

And another has a theory about who's hiding in the container. "How is Matthew both in the front and in the trashcan, cuz it seriously looks like him, and feels like him," they wrote.

If anything, the post does offer a little comedic relief to those of us heartbroken over the fact the show will end after its 15th season. As a lifelong fan—perhaps even an amateur profiler, if you will—here's what I think is happening: Either Matthew has been having a little fun on Photoshop, or there are some super natural happenings going on. Due to the fact that the actor is a notorious jokester, I'm going to go with the former, but the procedural has aired some pretty strange events over the past 14 seasons, so I'm not ruling anything out!
