Easy Holiday Decorating Ideas to Try In Your Home This Year

Bringing out the holly (wink, wink), the mistletoe and the Christmas tree around the holidays is a given for many households, but what about those small, personal touches that ultimately make all the difference?

That’s where bloggers Taryn Whiteaker and Jennifer O’Brien come in!

They visited our show and shared their go-to holiday decorating ideas -- and their DIYs only take minutes to put together!

What better time to refresh the artwork in your home than around the holidays?

Grab a blank canvas, real or fake cranberries and hot glue -- and you’ll have a modern, abstract piece of art on your hands in no time!

Pro tip: Taryn mentions that if you use fake cranberries, you can reuse the artwork year after year!

Homemade Wreath with Scarf

Who doesn’t love a pretty wreath on their front door around the holidays?!

The only problem? They can be pricey, as Jennifer points out.

As a budget-friendly alternative, she suggests using a twig wreath as your base and then peeking around your backyard for greenery to use, such as rosemary, sage, cypress, thyme or pine.

Simply layer your findings on your twig base -- and voila!

As you can see above, you can also upcycle a festive scarf for additional decoration. (Jennifer also likes using pretty scarves as table runners!)

PERSONALIZED ORNAMENTS

Wood Slices

For a rustic feel, Taryn suggests making personalized ornaments with pre-cut mini wood slices!

Print out family photos (Taryn advises doing so at a local print shop, where they have laser printers) and attach them to the pre-cut wood with either gel medium, Modge Podge or by using the iron-on method.

Graffiti

Like Jennifer does, take generic ball ornaments that you have laying around your house, spray paint them white and write all the highlights of your year on them in sharpie.

SUCH a good idea!

Because a little friendly competition never hurt anybody, our studio audience voted for their favorite decor ideas -- and Jennifer was declared the winner!

Thanks to 50 Strong, though, both contestants went home with $500!
