LONDONEdward Enninful can sure draw a crowd.

For his final cover as editor in chief of British Vogue he tapped 40 women, all of whom have previously graced the magazine’s cover during Enninful’s tenure. Dressed in black and white, they pose together like old friends — or family — gathering for a reunion in a shoot by Steven Meisel.

The group includes a mix of models and other celebrities including Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, Victoria Beckham, Dua Lipa, Salma Hayek, Miley Cyrus, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington.

“When it came to my final issue as editor, it was impossible for me to choose one person for the cover who personifies not only Vogue, but the world we live in today,” Enninful said in an interview.

“It became obvious very quickly that we needed to represent inclusivity beyond fashion, and celebrate the community of women who have helped to shape the culture, so I gathered 40 women who have previously graced the cover of British Vogue during my editorship.”

He added that choosing the cover stars every month has always been based on “gut feeling, and listening to what’s happening in the world,” and this cover was no different.

Enninful added that the final issue is also a taster of what’s to come in his new role as global creative and cultural adviser at Vogue, and editorial adviser at British Vogue.

In his new global role, he will continue to contribute to the Vogue brand globally. Enninful will also resume work on broader creative projects that he put on pause when he joined the magazine as editor in August 2017.

Before taking the big job at British Vogue, Enninful served as creative and fashion director of W Magazine.

While he’ll continue to work at Condé Nast, he’s also planning to reach beyond the world of magazine publishing.

In November last year, Enninful signed with William Morris Endeavor, more commonly known as WME.

The talent agency’s roster of clients includes Pharrell Williams, Selena Gomez, Jeremy Strong, Donald Glover and Olivia Rodrigo.

With a new business and editorial structure at Condé Nast, his role as editor in chief has been eliminated.

In September, Chioma Nnadi was named British Vogue’s head of editorial content at the title. She will look after the day-to-day running of the magazine, mirroring the setup at all of Condé Nast’s titles.

The overall editorial direction of Vogue is set by Condé Nast global chief content officer and Vogue editor in chief Anna Wintour, who has solidified her position overseeing the company’s editorial operations over the last few years.

Condé Nast has been undergoing a years-long restructuring and chief executive officer Roger Lynch revealed last November that the company was planning a 5 percent staff reduction (or about 300 employees) across its numerous titles.

The announcement of layoffs followed a top-line restructuring in October across editorial, content development and branded content that saw Condé Nast Entertainment head Agnes Chu, among others, leave the company.
