Who Was Eliminated on 'The Traitors' Season 2 This Week?

Ooooooof. Things are not looking great for the Traitors. While all three still remain after five episodes, the game is really starting to heat up. The Faithfuls almost eliminated Dan Gheesling tonight, The Bachelor's Peter Weber has devised a plan to sniff out who the Traitors are and Season 1 fan favorite Kate Chastain is back and ready to play.

The Traitors (along with Alan Cumming and his over-the-top outfits) is now halfway through Season 2, and so far it's been glorious. Originally, 21 players from shows like Big Brother, The Challenge and The Real Housewives entered the Scottish mansion and were assigned the titles of either Traitor or Faithful. Now they're eliminating each other one by one, duking it out for the $250,000 prize pot.

On Jan. 25, 2024, Peacock released Episode 5 at its regular time slot of Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET, and A LOT happened. Episode 5 was pure mayhem, so let's get into it.

Who was murdered on The Traitors Season 2 Episode 5?

Tamra Judge

It was lowkey shocking that Traitor Phaedra Parks went along with murdering one of her closest allies, fellow Housewife Tamra, especially only moments after Parvati Shallow called the Housewives out at the Round Table, and RHOM star Larsa Pippen was banished. Why would Phaedra so easily nix one of her allies when the alternative option, Sandra Diaz-Twine, is more more aligned with the other two Traitors. Looking back, however, I think this was a wise move for Phaedra as it lowers the profile of the Housewives substantially and gives her plausible deniability if she's ever accused of being a Traitor. Tamra had also proved herself to be a savvy judge of character which is a bit dangerous.

Watching Janelle play The Traitors was basically like watching Season 1 contestant and fellow Big Brother alum Rachel Reilly play for a second time without learning anything from her past mistakes. Janelle and Rachel are nothing if not competitors, and they do not have a low-speed version. It's full tilt 24/7. Both were leading the charge on eliminating Traitors, marching through the house on a witch hunt. The issue, however, is that after a few incorrect guesses, suspicion quickly turns on the person who has spearheaded the wrong votes. This week, when Dan was in the hot seat, he deftly turned on Janelle, easily convincing the Faithfuls to vote her out (just like he did in Season 14 of Big Brother). Janelle didn't help her case by claiming that Dan, Sandra and Chris "CT" Tamburello were all Traitors when accused, basically eliminating three votes to save her before she'd even begun. She left in a fiery blaze and will be missed.

The vote count:

  • Janelle (9) — CT, Sandra, Parvati, Dan, Phaedra, Sheree, Kevin, Kate, MJ

  • Dan (5) — Trishelle, Janelle, Peter, Bergie, John

Who joined the cast of The Traitors Season 2 in Episode 5?

Kate Chastain

Season 1 fan favorite and Below Deck alum Kate Chastain is back for Season 2, and she couldn't have arrived at a better time. Kate, a Faithful yet again, arrived at the Castle just in time for the Round Table, voting based on very little information. In Season 1, Kate, despite being voted for in 7 out of the 9 Round Tables, hung around until the final five, being the final Faithful eliminated from the game. She demonstrated plenty of savvy on her season, and hopefully she'll be able to help the flailing Season 2 Faithfuls eliminate at least one player.

Who won Shields during Episode 5?

This episode the shields were won by Carsten "Bergie" Bergersen and Trishelle Cannatella. However, since the challenge was divided into two groups, one inside the castle and one outside, Peter devised a clever plan to keep the secret of who won among the six players outside. If then, the Traitors were among the inside group, they wouldn't know which of the players had the Shields and therefore be forced to eliminate one of the inside players to avoid incorrectly guessing the Shield carriers and sending no one home. Since Parvati, Phaedra and Dan were indeed among the indoor contingent, the plan seemed to work well.

Peter, however, added a second layer to the plan, informing the three players he felt were the most suspicious, CT, Parvati and Dan, that he and Janelle had the shields. If in the unlikely scenario that the Traitors opted to eliminate either Bergie or Trishelle, the real Shield holders, the murder would not work and Peter would know that some combination of CT, Parvati and Dan were the Traitors.

At the end of Episode 5, Dan and Parvati are arguing among themselves as to who they should murder, but in either case it seems to be working. Either they will eliminate John Bercow because he was in the indoors group (working off the first part of the plan) or they will attempt to eliminate Bergie, thinking Peter has the shield (working off the second part). Either way, Peter has proven himself to be a bit of a mastermind.

Which players remain in The Traitors Season 2?
