Elizabeth Hurley: ‘Life’s Short, Buy the Bikini’

Elizabeth Hurley shares some much-needed words of wisdom in her latest Instagram post. In a shot that looks straight from the pages of Sports Illustrated, Hurley poses in the water in a blue hand-embroidered bathing suit and oversized sunglasses.

“Life is short, buy the bikini,” she writes. Not bad advice!

It should be noted that the photo also doubles as an advertisement for her namesake line of swimwear, Elizabeth Hurley Beach. The crystal bikini top and bottom in “prussian blue” are sold separately for $95 each.

Kelly Bensimon of Real Housewives of New York, who rocked the same suit (and looking quite a bit like Hurley) and appeared on the brand’s official Instagram, counts herself a fan.

Hurley isn’t the only celebrity with a YOLO attitude when it comes to swimsuits. Jennifer Aniston once told People she’s never giving up two-pieces. “If I can be the first 80-year-old to go out there successfully in a bikini, then I’ll take that on,” she said in an interview. “I don’t think anybody needs to rein in anything because of an age.”

When Helen Mirren was snapped in a bikini photo that can only be describes as “bodacious” at age 66, she didn’t hawk her diet or workout plan. Instead, she reminded people of the power of a good angle: “I think the thing that will haunt me for the rest of my life is that bloody photograph of myself in a bikini. In and of itself, it is a lie because I don’t actually look like that and I know that that is going to haunt me forever and I’ll be forever trying to bury it unsuccessfully.”

If you’re not quite there with body confidence yet, you have something in common with Diane Keaton, who once explained how her views on the “ideal” body changed over time. “By the time I was 50, when I adopted [my daughter], I’d already seen that we come in all shapes and sizes, and it’s really pretty spectacular. The curvaceous female form, which I used to consider contentious — now I just can’t believe how gorgeous it is.”

Even Ashley Graham, a literal swimsuit model and designer, has opened up about the difficulties even she can face when putting on a bikini. “It’s not always easy to wear a bikini, especially when you’re doing a photo shoot for the first time for Sports Illustrated, but you have to own who you are,” she told InStyle. “At the end of the day, I have an overwhelming love for myself and appreciation for my body, and confidence like that is key.”

And for days when you’re really fed up, we recommend channeling Ronda Rousey’s method: “I swear to God, if anyone calls me fat one more time in my life, I’m going to kill them.”
