Elk River campgrounds prepare for July 4th festivities

PINEVILLE, Mo. — Local campgrounds are gearing up for their 4th of July celebrations.

The Elk River is a common place for locals to relax throughout the summer, especially on holidays.

The manager of Big Elk Floats and Camping in Pineville told us Monday, that they’ve already seen more than 100 visitors at the campgrounds, coming to celebrate the 4th of July, and that has them discussing firework regulations on the river.

“Safety first, we ask people to put the used fireworks in a metal container and we will haul them off and dispose of them correctly,” said Drew Daniel, Big Elk Floats and Camping manager.

Folks are welcome to bring their own fireworks but are only permitted to light them on the “Little Sugar Beach,” no later than 10:30 p.m.

Management also claims to be one of the few campgrounds in the area to have their own pressurized water trailer, with a fire nozzle– in case of emergencies.

“We’ve given you a designated area, go shoot them there. Don’t shoot them off in the campgrounds, don’t catch your tent on fire, don’t catch your neighbor’s tent on fire, go to the designated spots, and we’ll stop you. Very easy to do,” said Daniel.

Management says as long as campers abide by their rules, it will be a beautiful spot to spend the holiday.

“The city of Pineville puts on a beautiful show, and just to the north of us, if you sit here you can see it over the tree line. Also, you will see to the west of us, another great display, so we let people enjoy other people’s fireworks and they can shoot their own if they want to, in a designated area,” said Drew Daniel, Big Elk Floats and Camping manager.
