Elle King Dramatic Weight Loss After Postpartum Depression Battle Inspires Fans
Country singer Elle King is opening up about her struggles with postpartum depression and how she recovered, both mentally and physically, almost two years after the birth of her son Lucky.
The "Ex's & Oh's" crooner shared a video of her daily exercises and self-care routine before performances alongside a very personal note in the caption.
She began, "Almost 2 years postpartum ! I am making this post to share my journey from 284 lbs at 5’3 from pregnancy 2021 - now 2023. It doesn’t happen over night. It didn’t even happen in a year for me. In fact, it’s an on going still working towards ever changing goals kinda thing."
"So why am I sharing this? I fell into a very deep depression during my pregnancy. I also didn’t even realize how intense postpartum depression is and was until I very slowly began to crawl out. I felt trapped in my body. I couldn’t even sing," King went on.
The 34-year-old award-winning singer explained that she began with metabolic workouts and light cardio, which she said she did "to warm up my body, my lungs, my voice, and my spirit."
"I am a creature of habit, so I changed my f---ing habits. Every few weeks I feel my body getting stronger," King revealed. She shared that she slowly built up her workouts and had some help from her friend, bassist, and music director, Paul DeVincenzo, who—despite being a musician—she said is "basically a body builder."
King told her fans that even if they don't have someone like DeVincenzo, they can still do it, they just have to be their own "champion," as she called it. She also clarified that she is not on any weight loss medication.
King proclaimed: "My BRAIN functions better on the days I move my body. Some days I count stretch marks. Some days I hug myself and say thank you to my body. Today is a kind day. I’ve been tiny, I’ve been huge, BUT RIGHT NOW IM HEALTHY."
People appreciated King's honesty and encouragement, with writer Jessica Reed Kraus commenting, "So proud of you! What an inspiration you are."
Many more shared their own experiences struggling through postpartum depression, praising King for talking about it: "Love you more than I did for sharing this. Postpartum is never talked about enough and you hit the nail on the head that it felt like I was trapped. Much love to you and your healthier version of self ??."
Another thanked King for giving them the push they needed, commenting, "you don’t understand how much I needed to see your post. You’ve just lit a fire under me ?? my baby is 10 months and I’m still crawling out of that cave! Thank you for sharing!"
Similar notes quickly filled up the comments, with fans commending King on everything she's done and thanking her for being willing to discuss the tough topics publicly.
