Ashley Park is getting candid about a recent health emergency that landed her in the hospital at the start of the new year.
The Emily in Paris star–who plays Mindy Chen–took to Instagram with several photos and videos documenting her stay in the intensive care unit.
“As I sit here processing and recovering from the first few weeks of 2024, the only word I can think of is grateful,” she began in the caption, explaining that “while on holiday in December into New Years,” she experienced “tonsillitis” that “spiraled into critical septic shock which infected and affected several of my organs.”
“I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told,” she continued,
According to the Mayo Clinic, septic shock is the last and most severe stage of sepsis, which happens when your body has an extreme reaction to an infection. Septic shock is life-threatening and occurs when an infection in the body causes extremely low blood pressure and organ failure.
While the Only Murders in the Building actress didn’t go into any more detail, she explained that she “hesitated” to share what was going on in the “throes of recovery,” however, she felt confident now that she’s “safely on the other side of the worst.”
Expressing gratitude to her doctors and all the ICU nurses who worked “tirelessly” to provide language translations and vital support. Park didn't specify where she was on holiday nor where she was hospitalized, but she also tagged a luxury spa in the Maldives hile expressing her gratitude for everyone involved's assistance.
The actress also shouted out her parents and her Emily in Paris costar Paul Forman, who was “unconditionally” by her side and can be seen in many of the photos posted kissing her forehead and holding her hand.
“You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know,” she stated, wrapping up with, “I love you Paul. More than I can ever say.”
Park and Forman haven’t officially confirmed their romance, but they’ve been spotted on a handful of occasions together.
“Im sorry for being so absent recently to so much and to people in my life. I love you all. I’m healing and I promise I’m gonna be okay ??”, she concluded in her statement to fans.
Park’s candid post received an outpouring of support, as her Emily in Paris costar and close friend Lily Collins commented, “I can hardly look at these without crying. I love you sister and I’m forever grateful you’re on the other side of this and for @peforman for your incredibly huge heart and for being there every step of the way. I cannot wait to hug you both ??,” while Lucien Laviscount added, “You’re incredible!!!! I’ve you guys so much!!!”
We’re wishing Park all the best and glad to hear she’s doing well, and hopefully, will be rejoining the cast as they gear up for production on Season 4, which Collins announced with a few snaps while holding the premiere episode script on Jan. 19.
