Emma D'Arcy's Cocktail Order Has Fans Thirsty in More Ways Than One
House of the Dragon has been arguably the internet's most talked-about show of the season, with each week bringing a new scene of graphic violence or stomach-turning incest. The latest moment to go viral, however, has nothing to do with the content of the fantasy series itself, but rather a somewhat captivating conversation between two of its stars.
In a getting-to-know-you video on HBO's YouTube channel, Emma D'Arcy, who plays Rhaenyra, and Olivia Cooke, who plays Alicent, answer conversation starter questions, one of which asks them their drink of choice. D'Arcy immediately replies: "A Negroni," before coyly adding: "Sbagliato. With Prosecco in it."
"Stunning!" Replies Cooke. And the internet appears to agree.
While the video was first uploaded two weeks ago, that specific short clip blew up over the weekend in anticipation of the new episode of the show, with many fans seeming to respond specifically to the actor's husky voice and posh delivery, not to mention the playful manner with which D'Arcy answers the question. They tilt their head while saying "sbagliato," then lean forward playfully as they clarify that it does, indeed, have prosecco in it.
That ever-so-slight incline of the shoulder was enough to send TikTok into a thirsty meltdown, with one content creator speculating as to whether it is suitably respectful to refer to D'Arcy, who is nonbinary, as "daddy."
In short, D'Arcy's Negroni sbagliato with prosecco in it is not just flirtatious as all hell, it's the kind of drink order that has the potential to be iconic in its specificity, way up there with James Bond's martini, shaken not stirred.
What exactly is a Negroni Sbagliato?
So the story goes, an Italian bartender came up with the sbagliato entirely by accident: they grabbed a bottle of sparkling wine while making a traditional Negroni, instead of gin. Hence this variation's name, sbagliato, which translates from the Italian to "mistake."
How do you make a Negroni Sbagliato?
Typically, a Negroni consists of just three ingredients, and is made with equal parts gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari. The sbagliato ditches the clear liquor in favor of Prosecco, making it a lighter, far less boozy alternative to the classic cocktail.
The measurements remain much the same: pour 1 ounce of gin and 1 ounce of vermouth over ice in a highball glass, top up with Prosecco, and garnish with an orange wedge. Perfect for sipping at golden hour—or while watching House of the Dragon.
