Emmys Host (and Nominee!) Jimmy Kimmel Doesn’t Want to Win an Award: “I Would Rather Get a Laugh Than the Trophy”

Jimmy Kimmel will spend a lot of time on stage at the 2016 Emmys, but he’d rather have a microphone in his hands than a trophy. The late night host, who is emceeing this year’s Emmy Awards, told The Hollywood Reporter that he doesn’t plan on winning.
“I know I’m not gonna win,” Kimmel said. “Mostly I just want to do well as host. I would rather get a laugh than the trophy. I’d rather have a funny—even when I’m presenting or whatever, right? I just want it to go well and afterward everybody to say, ‘Oh, that was funny.’ That’s to me its own reward.”
Jimmy Kimmel Live! is up against Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Late Late Show with James Corden, Real Time with Bill Maher, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category, and Kimmel thinks John Oliver is going to take home the Emmy. “He does a great show,” he said.
The host is so convinced that he’s already written up a “very strong bit” to perform in response to losing. “I will be totally discombobulated if we win,” he joked.
