Emrata's Husband Proposed to Her With a Paper Clip
Six weeks ago, Emily Ratajkowski surprised the entire internet and revealed she got married to her boyfriend of a few weeks, actor/producer Sebastian Bear-McClard, at New York City's City Hall. She gave little explanation beside the few Instagram stories she posted of the wedding until she went on Jimmy Fallon's show last night and filled in some blanks.
Emrata didn't talk about how long she and Bear-McClard had been dating, but she did admit that yeah, the City Hall wedding hadn't been what she was always planning. "I guess I didn’t really know what I always wanted to do, which is maybe why it was so untraditional," she said. "I wore mustard yellow suit and a black hat which was all part of my plan to not be noticed. Well, everyone wore suits or sweatsuits and my husband is good friends with the Fat Jew, Fat Jewish on Instagram-they went to high school together, they grew up together-and he wore a white jumpsuit, like sweatsuit so I was thinking he would be the decoy. Truly didn’t work out quite as I’d imagined."
Bear-McClard proposed with a paper clip ring an undisclosed amount of time before the wedding. "He proposed to me at Minetta Tavern [an upscale restaurant in New York City], and he didn’t have a ring so I was like, 'mmm, nah,'" Emrata recalled. "And then he took the paper clip that the bill was paid with and made me a ring which I actually thought was really romantic."
"And then we made our actual rings," she said. "So we’re both interesting little humans is what I would say and you do need 24 hours before you have to go down to City Hall and get your license because they don’t want you to do the Vegas thing. Like, you have to think about it for 24 hours. I think that’s why. So then we walked into Chinatown and bought a little piece of, like an ounce of gold, and he was like, ‘We’ll melt down the gold and make the rings.’ Right, so I was like, ‘I just don’t see us melting down gold, like that just seems kind of difficult’ but then he ended up going to some store in midtown and met this nice man-this is the night before our wedding, by the way-and this very nice Israeli man was like, ‘I know how to do that.’ So we came into his studio after hours and then we actually hammered them out, the whole thing, used a little blow torch, yeah. And they were supposed to be temporary rings but now I’m very attached and I really don’t want to get rid of it. I just feel like making it yourself, like could you be more personal, really?" She then showed Fallon the band and proceeded to talk about her role in Amy Schumer's new movie, plus the perils of SoulCycle.
