How an End-of-Week Rosé Led to a Comfy Saturday Sweatsuit

We’ve all been there: In the backseat of a Lyft, happy-hour buzzed and homeward bound, fingertips occupied in an endless Insta scroll. And then it happens. That must-have purse or shoe pops up and you impulsively make the call to buy. This series explores the modern phenom that is shopping when you’re a little sauced and the sweet satisfaction or dreadful dismay that follows.

Autumn is in the air and with it comes fabulous fall trends like teddy coats, kimonos, and animal prints. But let’s not forget the evergreen wardrobe staples, because, truth be told, the arrival of PSL season means it’s officially time to get cozy. That’s why in this week’s installment of Buzzed Fashion Buys we were intrigued by a certain purchase made IRL by one of Brit + Co’s own style editors, Jenny Altman. It was the first Friday in October, and the evening was as crisp as the rosé she was sipping before she was unexpectedly granted a 15-minute sneak-away shopping break (while her daughter was preoccupied with her dad nearby) and found herself in Anthropologie (as one does). The rest is history. “To me, Anthro is an escape — part store and part gallery,” says Altman. “I love wandering around and touching and feeling everything. It’s such a tactile environment, and it’s the loungewear section that always does me in.”

After some quickish perusing, she happened on the Pure + Good Lorena Floral Joggers ($88) and Sweatshirt ($78). “I can’t always justify buying a new dress (and I certainly wasn’t in the mood to start trying on jeans), but loungewear always seems like a good spend and the sizing is an easy guess,” says Altman. Feeling a little impulsive from the vino, she decided to spend the dough.

That next morning she headed upstate New York for a relaxing, fall weekend in the country where casual clothes are a must. “The best thing about wearing this duo is that I feel dressed enough for weekends, even if friends happen to stop by,” says Altman. “Plus, it’s getting chilly already, and I’ve been as cozy by the fire as I’ve been out on the patio enjoying my morning coffee.”

Retail Hangover Status: “Totally worth it,” says Altman. “I don’t mind spending $150 on something I’ll wear a lot, especially because it’s really two separate pieces, and I’ve been getting a lot of use with the sweatshirt on its own with jeans looks. This is a great early fall layering piece too as it’s comfy without being too oversized.”
