According to a study in the journal Emotion, researchers found that after people had a voluntarily frightening experience going through a haunted house, most people said they were in a better mood. Mood increases were significant among people who said they had “challenged their fears.”

They also noticed that people who had a positive experience going through a haunted house have the same inactive brain activity when they are doing meditative activities, like drawing or writing. That could explain the dazed feeling you sometimes get after the haunted house is over.
