Ernest W. Baker Men’s Fall 2021

The notion of comfort in an uncertain world crept stealthily into Reid Baker and Ines Amorim’s universe for fall. To their vintage-tinged tailored vocabulary, they added elements with a nostalgic, cozy feel — a trailing scarf crocheted in a rose pattern, animal-print pajamas, animal-print faux fur, a camel dressing-gown coat worn over a shirt and tie, and slightly flared tartan trousers evocative of childhood in the 1970s.

A velvet smoking jacket was paired with track pants, while organic cotton T-shirts, an addition to the lineup, were adorned with rose motifs — evoking sensuality with a thorny side.

The Western touches on blazers and the sharp seams down the fronts of pants were coherent with the young label’s distinctive cinematic vision, through which they successfully channel a sense of drama without reneging on commercial appeal.

Their video channeled a feeling of unease and isolation, inspired by the surreal worlds of Wim Wenders and David Lynch, and was a strong translation of the mood of the collection.
