'Euphoria's Lack of Emmy Nominations Leaves Us Feeling Less than Euphoric
The 2019 Emmys are finally upon us, and everyone is rooting for their favorite TV shows and performers. But if you fell in love with HBO's Euphoria, starring the inimitable Zendaya, you're likely wondering why the 2019 series hasn't received any Emmy nominations.
Season 1 of Euphoria premiered to much acclaim on June 16. Exactly a month later, on July 16, the 2019 list of Emmy nominations was announced. And the reason for Euphoria's exclusion from that list? The Emmys eligibility period for 2019 had already passed by the time the show aired.
The Emmys has a very strict eligibility period; for 2019, it ran from June 1, 2018, to May 31, 2019. Euphoria began airing two weeks too late and, as a result, will be eligible for consideration in 2020. Check out the full Emmys calendar on its website.
Euphoria joins a whole host of other shows that missed out on Emmy nominations in 2019 due to their air dates. Big Little Lies Season 2 is also noticeably missing from proceedings, as is Stranger Things 3. So they too will be considered for nominations in 2020 instead.
The final season of HBO's Game of Thrones received a record-breaking 32 Emmy nominations this year and is likely to sweep the boards tonight. Meanwhile, Euphoria has already been greenlit for a second season at HBO and is set to return to our screens in the not-too-distant future.
